Fuse boxes – Replacing, upgrading & installing new consumer units

If you have an older fuse box with no RCD trip switch, your property won’t be fully protected based on today’s standards. For instance, re-wireable fuses, trip-button conversions and old trip switches are all non-RCD protected.

Modern fuse boxes (now called consumer units) use a metallic structure, designed to contain a fire if there were a catastrophic fault. The overriding reason being that most consumer units are located in the escape route of a property, i.e. under stairs and hall ways; so to prevent any passage being blocked due to a fire, it is mandatory for all new consumer units to be metal, and therefore fire-safe.

When changing your fuse box, we initially test all associated circuits; this tells us the status and condition of current wiring and what issues must be addressed to ensure it is safe prior to replacement. At this point, we can replace the fuse box, secure in the knowledge that the existing wiring is in good condition, without faults that could cause future problems such as nuisance tripping.

We can also upgrade main earthing and earth bonding to Gas & Water pipes.
